The HERMES instrument is a payload provided by the Italian Space Agency, consisting of an innovative X-ray detector and associated control electronics.
By measuring and tagging the arrival time of radiation events to sub-μs resolution, the data streams from multiple distributed detectors can be compared via cross-correlation techniques to ascertain the location on the sky/Earth of the radiation events.
